Octoraro Native Plant Nursery donated 100 #7 gallon container grown trees to the National Park System, specifically the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA and Ft Necessity in Farmington, PA.

Flight 93 Memorial

At Flight 93 National Memorial, The NPS is replacing trees within the Memorial Groves that have died. They are replanting with 50 donated Quercus velutina/black oaks. At the memorial there are 40 groves each with 40 trees laid out on radials whose loci is the crash site. There is one grove for each of the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93.

Fort Necessity

A West Virginia Citizens Conservation Corps (CCC) crew completed planting 50 donated trees in the Great Meadows at Fort Necessity National Battlefield. These trees are being placed to define the historic tree line that was in place during the battle in July of 1754. A great deal of research went into determining the tree line, species and species density. Historic research as well as ground truthing through various archaeological means including remote sensing, physical excavations and a palynology study (microscopic identification of pollen grains located at the historic horizon) was used to support the meadow restoration.
